Maryland and Virginia: Today - Partly cloudy, highs from near 30 east to upper teens west with lows from near zero west to teens in east. Chance of snow flurries in mountains of Maryland today. Sunday - Fair, highs in mid 20s to low 30s.

Lower Potomac and Chesapeake Bay: Today - Partly cloudy today and fair tonight with visibility 5 miles or more through tonight. Winds should be out of northwest at 20 to 30 knots today, diminishing to 15 to 25 knots tonight.

Extended Area Outlook: For Monday through Wednesday - Rain or snow likely Monday followed by fair skies Tuesday and Wednesday. Highs should average in upper 20s to mid 30s, lows near 20. It should be cooler in mountains. Washington's normal temperature range for this time of year is from 44 to 27.

West Virginia: Today - Snow ending, highs near 20, lows from 10 below zero to 15. Sunday - Cloudy, nights near 40.

The Nation Yesterday: Unseasonably cold temperatures continued yesterday afternoon across the eastern section of the nation with a slight warming trend experienced in the western portions. For portions of Kentucky, Tennessee, West Virginia and western Virginia yesterday was the first day with above-freezing temperatures since last weekend. Temperatures increased into the 20s across the north Atlantic Coast states, the Ohio Valley and the Great Lakes region with 30s across the mid-Atlantic Coast states and 40s across the southeastern states. Readings in the 50s and 60s dominated across Florida. An upper air disturbance located off the southern Pacific Coast spread scattered rainshowers across the southwestern U.S. and California. Light snow showers continued across the lower Great Lakes region and the north Appalachians, but there were no reports to any additional accumulations. Skies were generally partly cloudy or cloudy across the nation yesterday afternoon. The only areas reporting clear condition were the South Altantic Coast states, the middle Mississippi Valley, the eastern Guff Coast, Illinois and Wisconsin.

The National Weather Forecast for Today - There will be a good chance for rain across south Texas with scattered showers across New Mexico, Arizona and the central plateau. Snow will fall across the lower Great Lakes region. Elsewhere, fair or partly cloudy skies will prevail. It will be mild across the northern Plains and unseasonably cold across the Atlantic Coast states, the lower Great Lakes region and the Ohio Valley. Elsewhere, seasonable temperatures are expected.

The Council of Government's Air Quality Index for yesterday showed the high reading in the Washington area during the 2 to 3 p.m. period was 16 for the pollutant, photochemical oxidants. Index values between 0 and 24 indicate good air quality. When the index exceeds 100 the air becomes hazardous and persons with lung, heart and eye problems should restrict their activity. The forecast for today indicates the air quality will remain about thd same.

The National Weather Service forecasts that the Potomac River stage at Little Falls will remain near 3.3 feet today.
