Extended Area Outlook: For Sunday through Tuesday - Fair with little or no chance of precipitation except in mountians. Highs should average in teens to mid 20s, lows from near zero to 10, except cooler in mountains. Washington's normal temperature range for this time of year is from 44 to 27.

Lower Potomac and Chesapeake say: Today - Chance of snow today with visibility 5 miles or more, decreasing to 3 miles or less in precpitation. Winds should be variable to mostly westerly at 8 to 18 knots today, becoming gusty and north-westerly at 15 to 25 knots tonight.

West Virginia: Today - Windy with snow flurries, high in 30s, lows from 10 below zero to 10. Saturday - Windy with snow flurries, highs from 5 to near 30.

The National Weather Forecast for Today - Snow will be widespread across the north and central Atlantic Coast states, the Great lakes region, the Ohio Valley and the Appalachians with rain across the south Atlantic Coast states and Alabama. Scattered showers will fall across much of Arizona and northwest Washington state with snow showers, across the north and central Rockies. Elsewhere, fair or partly cloudy skies are expected. It will be unseasonably cold across the north and central Plains, the upper and middle Mississippi Valley, the Great lakes region and the Ohio Valley. Mild temperatures will continue across the western one-third of the nation. Elsewhere, seasonably cold temperatures are forecast.

The Council of Governments Air Quality Index for yesterday showed the high reading in the Washington area during the 2 to 3 p.m. period was 28 for the pollutant, photochemical oxidants. Index values between 25 and 49 indicate fair air quality. When the index exceeds 100 the air becomes hazardous and persons with lung, heart and eye problems should restrict their activity. The forecast for today indicates the air quality will improve slightly.

The National Weather Service forecasts that the Potomac River stage at Little Falls will remain near 3.3 feet today.
