Extended Area Outlook: For Wednesday through Friday - Outlook calls for partly cloudy skies Wednesday with highs in 30s, lows in teens; followed by cloudy skies with a chance of precipitation Thursday with highs in 40s; lows near 20. Friday's highs should be in 30s, lows in teens with fair skies.

West Virginia: Today - Windy with snow flurries, highs mostly in 20s, lows in low teens. Tuesday - Partly cloudy through state with flurries in north, highs in 20s to low 30s.

The National Weather Forecast For Today - Rain will extend from Alabama through Georgia and Florida into South Carolina. Snow will extend over the south and central Applachains, the upper Ohio Valley, the central and lower Great Lakes and northern New England. Rainshowers will be spread over the Pacific northwest. Temperatures will be mild through the southwest and much of the Pacific Coast. It will be very cold from the lower two thirds of the Mississippi Valley and the Ohio Valley through the central and south Atlantic Coast, including Florida. Elsewhere, temperatures will remain generally cold.

The Council of Governments' Air Quality Index for yesterday showed the high reading in the Washington area during the 9 to 10 a.m. period was 22 for the pollutant, sulfur dioxide. Index values between 0 and 21 indicate good air quality. When the index exceeds 100 the air becomes hazardous and persons with lung, heart and eye problems should restrict their activity.

The National Weather Service forecasts that the Potomac River stage at Little Falls will remain near 3.2 feet through tonight.
