Extended Area Forecast for Tuesday through Thursday: Fair with increasing cloudiness Thursday, temperatures will be moderating through the period. Highs Tuesday will be in the 30s, and will reach into the 40s by Thursday. Lows will range from the teens to near 30. Normal Washington temperatures for the period are a high 45 and a low of 28.

West Virginia: Today - Partly cloudy with highs ranging from the mid teens to the mid 20s, lows from 5 below to 10 above zero.Monday - Cloudy, chance of snow, highs will range from the 20s to the low 30s.

The Nation Yesterday: A deep low off the Massachusetts coast continued to affect the northeast corner of the nation with snow and gusty winds. Heavy snow fell over southeast New England during the day. Amounts of 4 to 8 inches were reported across Rhode Island, with 6 inches at Providence. In southeast Massachusetts, 4 inches of new snow fell at Chatham within 6 hours. Snow and blowing snow occurred from southern New England and New York into the northern Appalachians and upper Ohio Valley. Winds gusting to over 30 m.p.h. were common in the northern and middle Atlantic states. Cold air was again spreading across the eastern half of the Nation. Early evening temperatures dropped into the single numbers in the Great Lakes region, and below zero in parts of the upper Mississippi Valley. Warmer readings worked their way into the central part of the nation, with some areas in the western Kansas touching the 60 degree mark. Temperature reached into the 50s in western Nebraska and the eastern parts of Colorado and Wyoming. Some showers with snow in the higher elevations were scattered across the Pacific Northwest.

The National Weather Forecast for Today. Snow showers and flurries will continue from the northern and eastern sections of the Great Lakes region into northern New England. Some rain will fall along the north Pacific Coast. There will be clouds and a chance of light snow over parts of the central Plains and middle Mississippi Valley. Other areas will be clear or partly cloudy. Temperatures will be cold over the eastern half of the nation, and continued mild in the western half.
