The National Weather Forecast for Today - Showers and snow flurries will be scattered from the northern and eastern sections of the Great Lakes region into northernf New England. Rain will spread from Texas into the lower Mississippi Valley. Showers with snow in the higher elevations are forecast from the north Pacific Coast into the northern half of the plateau rgion. Clouds will also be found form Oklahoma into the middle Mississippi Valley and southwestern Great Lakes region. Temperatures will be warmer along most of the Atlantic Coast and continue mid elsewhere.

The Council of Governments' Air Quality for yesterday showed the high reading in the Washington area during the 2 to 3 p.m. period was 44 for the pollutant, photochemical oxidants. Index values between 24 and 49 indicate fair air quality. When the index exceeds 100 the air becomes hazardous and persons with lung, heart and eye problems should restrict their activity. The forecast for today indicates the air quality will improve somewhat.

The National Weather Service forecasts that the Potomac River stage at Little Falls will remain near 3.1 feet through Saturday.
