The National Weather Forecast for Today - Snow showers will continue around most of the Great Lakes region, northern Appalachians and extreme northern New England. Showers will be ending in central and southern Florida. Cloudy skise with some scattered rain or snow showers will spread across parts of the central Plains and middle Mississppi Valley. The Ohio Valley will also be cloudy but elsewhere skies will be clear or partly cloudy.Temperatures will be cooler along most of the Atlantic Coast. Colder weather will also spread over the Great Lakes, upper Mississippi Valley, most of the Plains states and the northern and central Rockles.

The Council of Governments' Air Quality Index for yesterday showed the high reading in the Washington area during the Noon period was 6 for the pollutant, photochemical oxidants. Index values between 0 and 24 indicate good air quality. When the index exceeds 100 the air becomes hazardous and persons with lung, heart and eye problems should restrict their activity. The forecast for today indicates the air quality will be about the same.
