Extended Area Forecast for Saturday through Monday: Fair through the period, except for a chance of precipitation on Sunday. Highs will be from the 30s to the mid 40s, lows from the teens to the mid 20s. Normal Washington temperatures for the period are a high of 47 and a low of 29.

The National Weather Forecast for today - There will be a chance of snow from northern Illinois across Michigan and the lower Great Lakes. Rain will fell across much of the Pacific northwest. Elsewhere, fair or partly cloudy skies are expected. Temperatures will be mild from the Great Plains westward, with unseasonably warm readings across the Southwest. A warming trend will begin across the Mississippi Valley, the Great Lakes and the Ohin Valley. Unseasonably cold temperatures will continue elsewhere.

The Council of Governments' Air Quality Index for yesterday showed the high reading in the Washington area during the 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. period was 24 for the pollutant photochemical oxidants. Index values between zero and 24 indicate good air quality. When the index exceeds 100 the air becomes hazardous and persons with lung, heart and eye problems should eye problems should restrict their activity. The forecast for today indicates the air quality will be good.

The National Wealth Service forecasts that the Potomac River stage at Little Falls will be near 3.6 feet.
