Lower Potomac and Chesapeake Day: Today - Fair skies with visibility greater than 5 miles through tonight. Winds should be westerly at 15 to 30 knots today, 10 to 20 knots tonight.

Extended Area Outlook: For Sunday through Tuesday - Chance of precipitation with highs in 50s and lows in 30s through Monday followed by partly cloudy skies with highs in 40s and lows in 20s Tuesday. Washington's normal temperature range for this time of year is from 49 to 30.

West Virginia: Today - Partly cloudy, hich in 50s to low 60s, low in 30s. Saturday - Rain, high in upper 40s and 50s.

The Nation Yesterday: Dust from the high central and southern Plains descended on much of the south. Numerous cities, stretching from the Carolinas and northern Florida through the Gulf Coast states into. Texas and Oklahoma had ivisbilities reduced to one mile, by the dust. The deep low pressure storm center over the Great Lakes continued bringing a variety of late winter weather. Strong winds continued over much of the Great Plains, the Ohio and the upper half of the Mississippi Valley and the Great Lakes. Gusty winds spread eastward over the rest of the country as a cold front swept to the Atlantic Coast. Blowing snow plaggued the eastern Dakotas and the upper Mississippi Valley. Travel advisories for blowing and drifting snow were in effect last night to eastern North Dakota, northeastern Wyoming and the Colorado Rockies. Another low pressure storm ceater spread snow through the southern and the central Rockies and into Utah. A foot or more of snow fell on the northern Utah ski resort areas. Heavy snow was also reported over part of the Colorado Rockies. Winter storm warnings were in effect last night and today for the central mountainsof Arizona and for all of New Mexico last night and the south portions today.

The National Weather Forecast for Today - Rain over northern New England will reach across the lower Great Lakes and change to snow flurries over most of the remainder of the Great Lakes. Scattered showers will dampen western parts of the Pacific northwest central California and from southern New Mexico. Snow will fall over the northern mountains of Arizona, New Mexico and Nevada. Elsewhere, skies will be mostly sunny. Mild temperatures will reach from the Great Plains to the Atlantic Coast and seasonably cool readings will extend from the Rockies to the Pacific Coast.

The Council of Governments' Air Quality Index for yesterday showed the high reading in the Washington area during the 2 to 3 p.m. period was 10 for the pollutant, photo-chemical oxidents. Index values between 0 and 24 indicate good air quality. When the index exceeds 100 the air becomes hazardous and persons with lung, heart and eye problems should restrict their activity. The forecast for today indicates the air quality will remain about the same.

The National Weather Service forcasts that the Potomac River stage at Little Falls will be near 3.6 feet today.
