The National Weather Forecast for Today - Temperatures will be seasonably cool to cold over most of the nation. There will be snow showers and flurries from western New England through the lower and central Great Lakes. Rainshowers, snow in the higher elevations, will extend from the northern half of the Pacific Coast through Montana into west portions of Wyoming and Colorado.

The Council of Government's Air Quality Index for yesterday showed the high reading in the Washington area during the 2 to 3 p.m. period was 31 for the pollutant, photochemical oxidants. Index values between 25 and 49 indicate fair air quality. When the index exceeds 100 the air becomes hazardous and persons with lung, heart and eye problems should restrict their activity. The forecast for today indicates the air quality will improve slightly.

The National Weather Service forecasts that the Potomac River stage at Little Falls will fall to 4.6 feet today.
