Shirley H. Hamilton, 46, active in civic and church organizations, died of cancer Sundays at her home in Fairfax.
She was the wife of Navy Capt. O. W. Hamilton, who is on the staff of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
Born in Jersey City, N.J., Mrs. Hamiltion was a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
She had traveled extensively with her husband on tours of duty in Texas, California, Rhode Island and Portsmouth, Va. They lived in La Spezia, Italy in 1960-61.
They lived here from 1967 to 1970, and returned here in 1972, living in Fairfax since then.
Mrs. Hamilton was active in the Fairfax Meals-on-Wheels program, serving at one, as an officer. She also was active in the Fairfax Presbyterian Church where she taught Sunday School and worked with youth groups.
She was an officer in the Old Lee Highway Civic Association and had been active in the Navy Relief Society and as a Gray Lady.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by three sons, Lawrence, Paul and Douglas, all of the home; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Louis Hack, of Napies, Fla., and a brother, David Hack, of Caidwell, N.J.
