Lower Potomac and Chesapeake Bay: Today - cloudy with visibility of more than 5 miles. Wind will be from the southwest at from 10 to 20 knots. Waves in unprotected waters will average from 1 to 2 feet.

West Virginia: Today - Cloudy, rain likely, highs in the 50s, lows in the 40s. Friday - Rain likely, highs from the mid 50s to the mid 60s.

Extended Area Forecast for Saturday through Monday: Mild through the period, but a chance of rain on Sunday. High will be from the 50s to the low 60s, lows from the upper 30s to the 40s. Normal Washington temperatures for the periods are a high 51 and a low of 32.

The National Weather Forecast for today - Rain will continue over the Pacific northwest. Snow will extend from the northern and central Rockies across the plains from the Dakotas through western Kansas as well as over the upper Mississippi Valley and upper Great Lakes. From there, rain will continue eastward through most of Kansas and Oklahoma across the central and lower Mississippi Valley through the Ohio and atennessee Valleys, the central Gulf coast states and the Appalachiana. Temperatures will be mid over much of the east from the Atlantic coast through the lower Great Lakes, the Ohio Valley and the lower half of the Mississippi Valley. Elsewhere, temperatures will be seasonably cool to bocd.

The Council of Governments Air Quality Index for yesterday showed the high reading in the Washington area during the 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. period was 32 for the pollutant, photochemical oxidants. Index values between 25 and 49 indicate fair air quality. When the index exceeds 100 to air becomes hazardous and persons with lung, heart and eye problems should restrict their activity. The forecast for today indicates the air quality will improve.

The National Weather Service forecasts that the Potomac River stage at Little Falls will be near 4.4 feet.
