Lower Potomac and Chesapeake Bay: Today - Fair skies with visibility of 5 miles or greater through tonight. Winds should be westerly at 15 to 25 knots today becoming northwestern at 10 to 20 knots tonight.

Extended Area Outlook: For Monday through Wednesday - Partly cloudy skies through period with highs in 50s and lows in mid 30s to low 40s. Washington's normal temperature range for this time of year is from 52 to 33.

West Virginia: Today - Partly cloudy, high near 60, lows in upper 20s to mid 30s. There is a chance of rain in north today, chance of rain or snow throughout state late tonight. Sunday - Cloudy with chance of rain, high in 40s.

The Nation Yesterday: Rain and snow spread across the northern Atlantic Coast states. A low pressure center was located over Lake Huron with a warm fron eitending from it into southern New England and continued to produce Atlantic Coast states yesterday evening. Heavy snow warnings were posted across northern New Hampshire and western and northern Maine. Rain was widespread across New York. Pennslyvania, and southern New England. Substantial rain fell across portions of New York and New Jersey yesterday afternoon producing the possibility of flooding of small streams and urban flooding. Flash flood watches were posted across portions of southeastern New York and northern New Jersey until midnight. A flash flood watch also continued across western New York for possible ice jam flooding. Showers and thunderstorms pushed across the middle and southern Atlantic Coast.

The Council of Government Air Quality Index for yesterday showed the high reading in the Washington area during the 2 to 3 p.m. period was 19 for the pollutant, photo-chemcial oxidants. Index values between 0 and 24 indicate good air quality. When the index exceeds 100 the air becomes hazardous and persons with lung, heart and eye problems should restrict their activity. The forecast for today indicates the air quality will remain about the same.

The National Weather Service forecasts that the Potomac River stage at Litte Falls will rise to 4.5 feet today.
