Lower Potomac and Chesapeake Bay: Today - Rain today becoming partly cloudy tonight with visibility of 2 miles or less through tonight. Winds should be easterly at 15 to 30 knots today, westerly at 20 to 30 knots tonight.

Extended Area Outlooks For Thursday through Saturday - Fair skies through period with highs in mids 40s to mid 50s, lows in 30s. Washington's normal temperature range for this time of year is from 30 to 38.

West Virginia: Today - Rain or snow today, gradually ending, highs from near 40 to near 50, lows in upper 20s to mid 30s. Wednesday - Sunny, highs in mid 40s to low 50s.

The National Weather Forecast for Today - Snow will be scattered from most of New England across northern New York into Michigan and the upper Ohio Valley. Rain will fall in the mid Atlantic Coast states and showers and thundershowers will dampen the south Atlantic Coast states. Scattered rainshowers will snow over the mountains are also forecast from the Pacific northwest through Montana. It will be a little warmer over the central Plains and the northern Rockies and mild over California and southern Arizona. Temperatures will be cooler over New England and the mid Atlantic Coast states. Elsewhere, near seasonal readings will prevail.

The Council of Governments' Air Quality Index for yesterday showed the high reading in the Washington area during the 2 to 3 p.m. period was 19 for the pollutant, photochemical, oxidants. Index values between 0 and 24 indicate good air quality. When the index exceeds 100 the air becomes hazardous and persons with lung, heart and eye problems should restrict their activity. The forecast for today indicates the air quality will remain about the same.

The National Weather Service forecasts that the Potomac River stage at Little Falls will remain near 4.8 feet his morning.
