THe National Weather Forecast for today - Rainshowers will extend across the Pacific Coast from central. California through Washington and then across the northern intermountain region. Snow will extend from upper Michigan through the central and lower Great Lakes, across New York and New England. It will be seasonably mild through the intermountains of the West and the Southwest, as well as across the Rockies and central Plains. Elsewhere, temperatures will be generally cool or cold.

The Council of Governments' Air Quality Index for yesterday showed the high reading in the Washington area during the 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. period was 13 for the poolutant, carbon monoxide. Index values between zero and 24 indicate good air quality. When the index exceeds 100 the air becomes hazardous and persons with lung, heart and eye problems should restrict their activity. The forecast for today indicates the air quality will be good.

The National Weather Service forecast that the Potomac River stage at Little Falls will be near 5 feet.
