Extended Area Forecast for Friday through Sunday: Partly cloudy through the period, except for a chance of showers on Friday. Highs will be from the 60s to the low 70s, low from the low 40s to near 50. Normal Washington temperatures for the period are a high of 72 and a low of 51.

The National Weather Forecast for Today - Rain will fall across the upper Great Lakes. Elsewhere, fair or partly cloudy skies are forecast. It will be warmer from Texas and the east central plains across the lower and middle Mississipi Valley, the Ohio and Tennessee river valleys, the lower Great Lakes, the northern Appalachians and New England. Cooler weather is expected across the northern Rockies, while little temperature change is forecast elsewhere.

The Council of Governments' Air Quality Index for yesterday showed the high reading in the Washington area during the 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. period was 24 for pollutant, photo-chemical oxidants. Index values between zero and 24 indicate good air quality. When the index exceeds 100 the air becomes hazardous and persons with lung, heart and eye problems should restrict their activity. The forecast for today indicates the air quality will be good.

The National Weather Service forecasts that the Potomac River stage at Little Falls will be near 4.1 feet.
