Lower Potomac and Chesapeake Bay: Today - Chance of afternoon and evening showers with visibility greater than 5 miles today, decreasing to 2 miles or less this afternoon and evening. Winds should be southwesterly at 10 to 20 knots today, becoming northerly at 10 to 15 knots by tonight.

Extended Area OUtlook: For Wednesday through Friday - Fair skies with highs in upper 60s and 70s, lows in 40s to low 50s. Washington's normal temperature range for this time of year is from 73 to 52.

West Virginia: Today - Rain today, ending tonight, highs in mid 60s to mid 70s, lows in 40s. Tuesday - Clearing, highs in 60s to low 70s.

The National Weather Forecast for Today - It will be mostly sunny in the upper Great Lakes and upper Mississippi Valley into the eastern Dakotas in much of Florida and from the southern Rockies through southern California. Widely scattered to scattered showers and thunderstorms are likely over the remainder of the nation. It will be cooler in the upper Great Lakes and upper Mississippi Valley regions and cool in the intermountain region. Elsewhere seasonably mild temperatures will continue.

The Council of Governments' Air Quality Index for yesterday showed the high reading in the Washington area during the 9 to 10 a.m. period was 25 for the pollutant photochemical oxidants. Index values between 25 and 49 indicate fair air quality. When the index exceeds 100 the air becomes hazardous and persons with lung, heart and eye problems should restrict their activity. The forecast for today indicates the air quality will remain about the same.

The National Weather Service forecasts that the Potomao River stage at Little Falls will fall slowly to 3.6 feet this morning.
