The National Weather Forecast for Today - Showers will be scattered over Maine. Showers and thundershowers will extend from Florida along the Gulf of Mexico Coast through the lower Mississippi Valley, across the south and central Plains, through the lower Missouri Valley, over the Rockies, across the Great Basin and southwest and over the Pacific Coast from southern Washington into northern California. Temperatures will be warm over Florida and south Georgia. The Council of Governments' Air Quality Index for yesterday showed the high reading in the Washington area during the noon to 1 p.m. period was 32 for the pollutant, photochemical oxidants.
