Lower Potomac and Chesapeake Bay: Today: Fair with visibility of more than 5 miles. Wind will be from the west at less than 15 knots. Waves in unprotected waters will be less than 2 feet.

West Virginia: Today - Partly cloudy, highs from the low 70s to near 80, lows from near 40 to near 50. Friday - Partly cloudy, highs from the low 70s to near 80s. There is a chance of rain in the northern panhandle.

Extended Area Forecast for Sunday through Tuesday: Fair through the period, except for a chance of showers in the mountains on Tuesday. Highs will range from the 70s on Sunday, to the near 90s by Tuesday. Normal Washington temperatures for the period are a high of 77 and a low of 56.

The National Weather Forecast for today - Showers, mostly over Arizona and western Washington, will scatter over the inter mountain region, the Pacific Northwest and Montana. There will be a chance of scattered showers and thunderstorms over the southern Rockies, southern Texas and southern Florida. The rest of the nation will have sunny skies. It will be warmer over Virginia and the Carolinas and warm temperatures will continue from the northern Plains across the upper Great Lakes. Cool temperatures will dominate much of the Pacific Northwest and part of northern California through the inter mountain region. Elsewhere, mild temperatures will prevail.

The National Weather Service forecasts that the Potomac River stage at Little Falls will be near 3.6 feet.

The Council of Governments' Air Quality Index for yesterday showed the high reading in the Washington area during the 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. period was 47 for the pollutant, photochemical oxidants. Index values between 25 and 49 indicate fair air quality. When the index exceeds 100 the air becomes hazardous and persons with lung, heart and eye problems should restrict their activity. The forecast for today indicates the air quality will improve.
