The National Weather Forecast for Today - Scattered thundershowers will extend from the upper Great Lakes through the mid and upper Mississippi Valley into Oklahoma and Arkansas. There is a chance of widely scattered thundershowers over the Great Plains and showers over the Pacific northwest. Scattered showers with snow in the high mountains will cover the north alf of Intermountain Region throughout the north and central Rockies. The rest of the nation will be mostly sunny. It will be warmer over the north Atlantic Coast states and mild over the Great Plains, all of Texas and southern Florida. The rest of the country east of the Rockies will have a warm day. From the Rockies to the Pacific Coast it will be seasonably cool.

The Council of Government's Air Quality Index for yesterday showed the high reading in the Washington area during the noon to 1 p.m. period was 31 for the pollutant, photochemical oxidents. Index values between 25 and 49 indicate for air quality. When the index exceeds 100 the air becomes hazardous and persons with lung, heart and eve problems should restrict their activity. The forecast for today indicates the air quality will remain about the same.

The National Weather Service forecasts that the Potomac River stage at Little Falls will remain near 3.4 feet today.
