West Virginia: Today - Clear, high in 80s, low near 60. Wednesday - Clear, highs in mid 80s to low 90s.

The National Weather Forecast for Today - Scattered showers and thundershowers will reach from the upper Great Lakes across the upper and mid Mississippi Valley. Widely scattered showers will cover the northern half of the intermountain region, the Pacific northwest and the north and central Rockies. Except for a chance of widely scattered showers and thundershowers from Vermont across northern New York and the Ohio Valley and also in Arkansas and the southern Plains, the rest of the country will be sunny. The nation from the west coast through the Rockies will be cool and except for mild temperatures over southern Florida, Texas and from North Dakota through northern Minnesota the rest of the country will be warm.

The Council of Governments' Air Quality Index for yesterday showed the high reading in the Washington area during the 2 to 3 p.m. period was 50 for the pollutant, photochemical oxidants. Index values between 50 and 74 indicate poor air quality. When the index exceeds 100 the air becomes hazardous and persons with lung, heart and eye problems should restrict their activity. The forecast for today indicates the air quality will improve somewhat.

The National Weather Service forecasts that the Potomac River stage at Little Falls will remain near 3.3 feet today.
