Extended Area Forecast for Saturday through Monday: Fair through the period. Highs will be in the 80s, lows in the 60s. Normal Washington temperatures for the period are a high of 78 and a low of 58.

The National Weather Forecast for today - Widely scattered showers and thundershowers will extend from the Plains into the upper Great Lakes, while rain will cover the northern and Central Rockies. Temperatures will be cool from the Northern and central high plains into the southern Rockies and West-ward to the Pacific. Readings will be hot in the western Great Lakes, out the rest of the nation will have mild to warm temperatures. Skies will be cloudy from the northern and central plains across the northern and central Rockies. The rest of the nation will have sunny to partly cloudy skies.

The Council of Governments' Air Quality Index for yesterday showed the high reading in the Washington area during the 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. period was 110 for the pullutant, photochemical oxidants. When the index exceeds 100 the air becomes hazardous and persons with lung, heart and eye problems should restrict their activity. The forecast for today indicates the air quality will improved.

The National Weather Service forecasts that the Potomac River stage at Little Falls will be near 3.2 feet.
