The National Weather Forecast for Today - Scattered showers and thunderstorms will cover northern Oklahoma, the middle and northern Mississippi Valley regions. Widely scattered showers, with isolated thunderstowers and also some snow over the higher elevations will be found in the northern an central Rockies. The rest of the country will be sunny. It will be cooler westward from the plains and warm to the east of the Mississippi River. Mild temperatures will prevail between these areas.

The Council of Governments' Air Quality Index for yesterday showed the high reading in the Washington area during the 2 to 3 p.m. period was 44 for the pollutant, photochemical oxidants. Index values beteen 25 and 49 indicate fair air quality. When the index exceeds 100 the air becomes hazardous and persons with lung, heart and eye problems should restrict their activity. The forecast for today indicates the air quality will improve.
