A D.C. police officer fatally shot a man early yesterday after the man had shot a woman three times in the back, according to D.C., police.
Police said the officer, Timothy B. Wilson, 30, went to 2005 I St. NE at about 2 a.m. to investigate reports of a fight. When he arrived a couple standing on a porch told Officer Willice said. They said that by the time that it was over.
As Officer Wilson turned to leave, police reported, the woman shouted that her boyfriend had a gun. The officer turned and saw the man running after the woman shooting at her, police said. They said that by the time officer Wilson drew his revolver the man was standing over the woman firing into the body. Officer Wilson fired five shots, police said, hitting the man once on the left side of the head.
Police said the suspect, Joe L. Jeffries, 41, of 2005 I St., NE was taken to the D.C. General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 7:30 a.m.
Police said the victim, Cora Taylor, also of 2005 I St., NE, was also taken to D.C. General Hospital, where her condition yesterday was listed as satisfactory.
Police announced that Officer Wilson , a member of the District police force for more than six years, has been placed on administrative leave pending investigation by a grand jury.
