The National Weather Forecast for Today - Showers and thundershowers will be scattered from the eastern Great Lakes region across the Ohio Valley through New England and the mid-Atlantic Coast states. Scattered thundershowers will also cover much of Florida.There will be a chance of a few widely spaced thundershowers in the mid and lower Mississippi Valley through Alabama, Georgia and Oklahoma and over the central Rockies. Sunny skies will dominate elsewhere. It will be hot over the Montana Rockies and from southern Louisiana into eastern Tennessee. It will not be as warm over the central Plains and the mid-Mississippi Valley and seasonably mid or warm over the rest of the nation.

The Council of Governments' Air Quality Index for yesterday showed the high reading in the Washington area during the noon to 1 p.m. period was 105 for the pollutant, photochemical oxidants. Index values between 100 and 249 indicate hazardous air quality. When the index exceeds 100 the air becomes hazardous and persons with lung, heart and eye problems should restrict their activity. The forecast for today indicated the air quality will improve.
