Lower Potomac and Chesapeake Bay: Early morning fog becoming partly cloudy by afternoon. Waves will be near 1 foot. Winds will be from the south at 4 to 8 knots. Visibility will be 5 miles or more except less than 1 mile in morning fog.

Extended Area Outlook for Saturday through Monday: Partly sunny through the period with a chance of afternoon or evening showers. Highs will be in the 80s and near 80 at the shore. Lows will be in the 60s. Normal Washington temperatures for the period are a high of 85 and a low of 66.

Atlantic Ocean Beaches from Cape May to Maryland: Partly cloudy through Friday, highs will be in the lower 70s both days. Water temperatures will range from near 60 in the north to the mid 60s in the south.

Atlantic Ocean Beaches from Cape Hatteras to Virginia: Early morning fog followed by partly cloudy skies both days, highs in the 70s. Water temperatures will range from the mid 60s in the north to the mid 70s in the south.

West Virginia: Today - Sunny, highs will range from the mid 70s to mid 80s, lows will be near 60. Friday - Partly cloudy, high near 80.

The national weather forecast for today - Scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected over the upper Mississippi Valley, the Gulf and south Atlantic Coast states into Arkansas and Kentucky, and widely scattered through the northern Plains into southeastern Idaho. The remainder of the natio will be mostly sunny. Seasonably mild readings are expected to continue through New England, along the mild Atlantic Coast, in much of California, the northern intermountain region and Montana. It will continue to be humid over the southeast quarter of the nation and the Mississippi Valley into the eastern Great Plains.

The Council of Government's Air Quality Index for yesterday showed the high reading in the Washington area during the 3 p.m. period was 39 for the pollutant, photochemical oxidants. Index values between 25 and 49 indicate fair air quality. When the index exceeds 100 the air becomes hazardous and persons with lung, heart and eye problems should restrict their activity. The forecast for today indicates the air quality will remain fair.
