Extended Area Forecast for Friday through Sunday - Chance of showers Friday, ctherwise fair and gradually warmer. Highs will average from the upper 80s to low 90s and lows will be in the mid 60s. Normal Washington temperatures for the period are a high of 87 and low of 67.

Attantic Ocean Beaches from Cape Hatteras to Virginia: - Wednesday and Thursday - Mostly sunny, high in the low 80s. Water temperatures will range from the upper 60s in the north to the upper 70s in the south.

Atlantic Ocean Beaches form Cape May to Maryland: Wednesday and Thursday - Mostly sunny, high in the 80s. Water temperatures will average from the low 60s in the north to the upper 60s in the south.

The National Weather Forecast for Today - Showers and thunderstorms will be scattered across extreme southern and western Texes, the Mississipoi Valley and northwest into the eastern Plains and across Florida. Scattered showers will occur in western Oregon and Washington and northern New England.Temperatures will be warm to mild across the nation. Elsewhere skies will be mostly sunny.

The Council of Governments' Air quality index for yesterday showed the high reading in the washington area during the 3 p.m. period was 37 for the pollutand, photochemical oxidants. Index values between 25 and 49 indicate fair air quality. When the index exceeds 100 the air becomes hazardous and persons with lung, heart and eye problems should restrict their activity. The forecast for today indicates the air quality will improve.

The National Weather Service forecasts that the Potomac River stage at Little Falls will remain at 30 feet.
