The National Weather Forecast for Today - Showers and thundershowers will be scattered from Texas, Oklahoma and Kansas through the lower Great Lakes and into New England. The most likely area of occurrence will be in south and east Texas and along the mountain chain from eastern Tennessee into all of New England. Some showers will be possible in northwest Washington. The remainder of the nation will have mostly sunny skies with tamperatures in the warm to mild range. However, there will be one hot spot and that will occur in Nebraska, the Dakotas, Minnesota and Iowa.

The Council of Governments' Air Quality Index for yesterday showed the high reading in the Washington area during the 2 to 3 p.m. period was 47 for the pollutant, photo-chemical oxidants. Index values between 25 and 49 indicate fair air quality. When the index exceeds 100 the air becomes hazardous and persons with lung, heart and eye problems should restrict their activity. The forecast for today indicates the air quality will improve.

The National Weather Service forecasts that the Potomac River stage at Little Falls with remain near 2.95 feet through today.
