The National Weather Forecast for Today - Showers and thunderstorms will be scattered to widely scattered from the middle Mississippi Valley along the Ohio Valley and east across southern Virginia then south through the Tennessee alley and southern appalachians across the northern half of Florida. The Council of Governments' Air Quality Index for yesterday showed the high reading in the Washington area during the noon to 1 p.m. period was 31 for the pollutant, photochemical oxidants index values between 25 and 49 indicate fair air quality.
