Extended Area Forecast for Saturday through Monday: Fair through the period. Highs will be in the 60s. Normal Washington temperatures for the period are a high of 80 and a low of 68.

Atlantic Ocean Beaches from Cape May to Cape Hatteras: Today - Sunny, highs from the low 80s to near 90. Friday - Partly cloudy, highs from the low 80s to near 90. Water temperatures will range from the 60s in the north, to the 70s elsewhere.

The National Weather Forecast for today - Scattered to isolated showers and thundershowers will reach from eastern portions of the central plains across the Mississppi Valley and the Great Lakes through the Appalachians and the southern Atlantic Coast. Sunny or fair skies will cover the rest of the nation. It will be cool over Montana, cooler over the northern plains and not as hot in Virginia and North Carolina. Temperatures will change little elsewhere with hot weather continuing. In central Arizona, the California deserts and from northern Florida, through Georgia into the coastal plains of South Carolina.

The Council of Governments' Air Quality Index for yesterday showed the high reading in the Washington area during the 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. period was 46 for the pollutant, photochemical oxidants. Index values between 25 and 49 Indicate fair air quality.When the Index exceeds 100 the air becomes hazardous and persons with lung, heart and eye problems should restrict their activity. The forecast for today indicates the air quality will improve.

The National Weather Service forecasts that the Potomac River stage at Little Falls will be near 2.9 feet.
