Robert F. Spitzer, 55, a sales executive with the Taylor Wine Co., died of cancer June 23 at the Greater Baltimore Medical Center. He lived in Joppa, Md.

For the past 10 years, he had been in charge of company sales in an area that included the District of Columbia, Virginia and Maryland.

Earlier, Mr. Spitzer had represented the company in Indianapolis for 10 years, and before that in Troy, N.Y. for five years.

Born in Buffalo, N.Y., he was a student at St. Lawrence University in Canton, N.Y., when his education was interrupted by World War II.

He served as an Army infantryman in the South Pacific during the war. After the war he returned to Buffalo, where he graduated from Canisius College.

Mr. Spitzer was a member of the Joppatowne Lions Club.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Hayes Spitzer, two sons, Keith and Kevin, and two daughters, Donna and Mary Ann, all of the home in Joppa; three other sons, Douglas, of Santa Cruz, Calif.; David, of Chicago, and Daniel, of Hartford, Conn., his father, Rudolph, of Kenmore, N.Y., and three brothers, Richard, of Potomac, Carlton, of Washington, and Alan, of New York City.
