Atlantic Ocean Beaches from Cape May to Cape Hatheras: Today and Sunday - Mostly sunny, highs from 80s north to mid 30s to near 90 in south. Water temperatures should range from low 70s north to upper 70s south.

The National Weather Forecast For Today - Showers will be scattered over New England. Showers and occasional thundershowers will extend from Nebraska and eastern South Dakota across Illinois and south Wisconsin into western Pennsylvania. Showers will be widely scattered through the southern plateau area. Showers and thunderstorms will also extend over the Gulf of Mexico coastal states including Florida. Temperatures will be unseasonably warm or hot over the Nation.

The Council of Governments' Air Quality Index for yesterday showed the high reading in the Washington area during the 2 to 3 p.m. period was 135 for the pollutant, photochemical oxidants. Index values between 100 and 200 indicate very unhealthy air quality. When the index eexceeds 120 the air becomes hazardous and persons with lung, heart and eye problems should restrict their acitivity. The forecast for today indicates the air quality will remain about the same.
