Atlantic Ocean Beaches from Cape May through Maryland: Today and Saturday - Mostly sunny and less humid, highs in mid to upper 80s today and low to mid 80s Saturday. Water temperatures should be in low to mid 70s.

Atlantic Ocean Beaches from Virginia to Cape Hatteras: Today - Chance of morning showers followed by clearing with highs in upper 80s to near 90. Saturday - Sunny, highs in mid 80s. Water temperatures should be in upper 70s to near 80.

WEST VIRGINIA: Today - Partly cloudy, highs in mid 70s to low 80s, lows in 50s. Chance of rain in southern portion of state tonight. Saturday - Sunny, highs in low to mid 80s.

The National Weather Forecast for Today - Showers and thundershowers will be scattered from the Rockies into west portions of the Plains, across the southern half of the Mississippi Valley and Gulf of Mexico Coast through the southern half of the Atlantic Coast states. Showers will also be scattered over northern Maine. Temperatures will be mild over much of the central Rockies as well as from the Great Lakes and upper Ohio Valley through northern New England. Elsewhere, temperature will remain above seasonable and continue warm to hot.

The Council of Governments' Air Quality Index for yesterday showed the high reading in the Washington area during the 2 to 3 p.m. period was 110 for the pollutant, photochemical oxidants. Index values between 100 and 249 indicate very unhealthy air quality. When the index exceeds 100 the air becomes hazardous and persons with lung, heart and eye problems should restrict their activity. The forecast for today indicates the air quality will improve.

The National Weather Service forecasts that the Potomac River stage at Little Falls will rise to 3.0 feet today.
