Atlantic Ocean Beaches from Cape May to Cape Hatteras: Today - Mostly sunny, highs in mid to upper 80s. Monday - Partly cloudy, highs in mid to upper 80s. Water temperatures should range from 70s in north to near 80 in south bath cavs.

West Virginia: Today - Partly cloudy and humid with highs in 80s to near 90, lows in 60s to near 70. Chance of afternoon showers and rain becoming likely tonight. Monday - Rain likely, highs in 80s.

The National Weather Forecast for Today - Thundershowers will be scattered from the middle and lower Mississippi Valley eastward to the Appalachians including the southern portion of the Great Lakes and the central and eastern sections of the Gulf Coast. There will also be scattered thundershowers from southern California across the central and southern Rockies into the west central Plains. Other areas will have clear or partly cloudy skies. Temperatures will be cooler from the western Great Lakes region into the northern Plains. It will be hot in the plateau region and southern plains and seasonably warm in most other areas.

The Council of Governments' Air Quality Index for yesterday showed the high reading in the Washington area during the noon period was 31 for the pollutant, photochemical oxidants. Index values between 25 and 49 indicate fair air quality. When the index exceeds 100 the air becomes hazardous and persons with lung, heart and eye problems should restrict their activity.

The National Weather Service forecasts that the Potomac River stage at Little Falls will fall slowly to 3.1 feet today.
