Atlantic Ocean Beaches from Cape May of Cape Hatteras: Today - Chance of morning showers followed by partial clearing this afternoon, highs near 80. Sunday - partly cloudy, highs near 80. Water temperatures should range from low to mid 70s in north to mid 70s to near 80 in south.

West Virginia: Today - Partly cloudy, highs in mid 70s to mid 80s. lows in 50s and 60s. Chance of morning showers in south and east. Sunday - Partly cloudy, highs in 80s.

The National Weather Forecast for Today - Showers and thundershowers will be scattered over the Appalachians and the Atlantic and Gulf Coast states except for western and northern Texas. There will also be some thundershowers in the upper Mississippi Valley region. The remainder of the nation will be mostly sunny. Temperatures will be on the mild side over the northern and central Atlantic Coast states through the Ohio Valley and Great Lakes region into North Dakota. It will be hot in the Pacific Coast states and much of Nevada.

The Council of Governments' Air Quality Index for yesterday showed the high reading in the Washington area during the 3 to 4 p.m. period was 105 for the pollutant, photochemical oxidants. Index values between 100 and 249 indicate very unhealthy air quality. When the index exceeds 100 the air becomes hazardous and persons with lung, heart and eye problems should restrict their activity. The forecast for today indicates the air quality will improve.

The National Weather Service forecasts that the Potamac River stage at Little Falls will remain near 2.9 feet today.
