The National Weather Forecast for Today - Thundershowers will be likely from east Nebraska across Missouri and Tennessee into the Carolinas. Scattered thundershowers will occur along the Gulf Coast in the mid Atlantic states and from the northern Rockies into the upper Mississippi Valley. There will also be thundershowers overs Arizona and New Mexico. Other areas of the country will have clear or partly cloudy skies. Temperatures will be cooler in the northern Rockies and lower Great Lakes and a little warmer in the west central Plains. Mild weather will prevail from the northern Plains to the north Atlantic Coast while other areas remain seasonably warm.

The Council of Governments' Air Quality Index for yesterday showed the high reading in the Washington Area during the noon to 1 p.m., period was 19 for the relutant photochemical oxidants. Index values between 0 and 24 indicate good air quality. When the index exceeds 100, the air is considered hazaraous, and individuals with lung, heart and eye ailments are urged to restrict their activity.
