Retired Army Maj. Isabelle E. Welch, 60, who served in the WAC from 1943 until 1965, died Monday at her home in Falls Church.

Born in Milwaukee, she attended Milwaukee-Downer College and La-Crosse State Teachers College. She was a tennis and ice-skating champion in Wisconsin.

After entering the WAC, Maj. Welch took her basic and officer's training at Ft. Des Monies, Iowa. She helped train WAC recruits at posts in Massachusetts and Florida during World War II.

In 1947, she was in charge of a WAC detachment with the Far East Command in Tokyo. A year later, she left military service to work for the Wisconsin Conservation Department.

Maj. Welch was recalled to active duty in 1951 and served as military personnel officer and assistant adjustant at Camp Attbury, Ind.

In 1955, she was assigned to two years of duty in France. Her last assignment before retiring was that of executive officer of the WAC training battalion at the WAC Center at Ft. McClellan, Ala. She had lived here since 1965.

She is survived by two sisters, Kathleen Welch and Mercedes W. Martin, both of Milwaukee.

The family suggests that expressions of sympathy be in the form of contributions to the Arthritis Foundation.
