Dr. Richard D. Logsdon, former associate pastor and director of youth as Capitol Hill Metropolitan Baptist Church, is the new pastor at First Baptist Church, Upper Marlboro.

Rabbi David Ohler, formerly of Congregation Avath Torah in Stoughton. Mass., is the new leader of the Gaithersburg Hebrew Congregation. He will aslo serve as principal for the Hebrew School, which meets at Stedwick Elementary School in Montgomery Village.

Paul Traver, professor of music at the University of Maryland and organist and choirmaster of St. Marks Church. Hyattsville has been appointed director of music for the Cathedral of St. Matthew the Apostle.

Alward V. Burch of Washington, a faculty member of the Bishop Denis J. O'Connel High School in Arlington for 17 years will become the school's first lay principal. He has served as assistant principal since 1973 and succeeds the Rev. James W. McMurtrie, who has become pastor of St. Louis Parish in Alexandria.

The Virginia Council of Churches has named the Rev. James A. Payne, of Roanoke, Va., as its associate executive secretary effective Sept. 1. Payne former executive of the Presbyterian Synod of the Virginias, has been active in forming the Virginia Interfaith Citizenship Effectiveness Program.

Dr. Gerald Epstein, formerly of New York City, is the new cantor of Ohev Sholom Talmud Torah Congregation, 16th and Jonquil Streets NW.

Capt. and Mrs. Tom Jones, who have served the National Capital and Virginia headquarters division of the Salvation Army for the past year as financial secretary and League of Mercy and nurses fellowship secretary, will become divisional secretary and assistant home league secretary, succeeding Maj. and Mrs. James Jay.
