Virginians who are not registered to vote but who wish to vote in the Nov. 8 general election must register by Oct. 8. The Constitution of Virginia requires that a voter be registered in the precinct in which he lives.
All jurisdictions in Northern Virginia will have special registration hours to make it as easy as possible for prospective voters to register. The larger jurisdictions will also register voters at several locations. Following is a list of the normal and extended voter registration hours and locations:
FAIRFAX COUNTY - The registrar's office, 4031 University Dr., Fairfax City, is open weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m, and will also be open Oct. 8 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
All Fairfax County public libraries will register voters Wednesdays through Oct. 5, from 3 to 9 p.m. Libraries which are normally open on Thursdays are open for voter registration Thursdays from 7 to 9 p.m. A special voter registration will take place Oct. 7, from 7 to 9 p.m., at George Mason, Sherwood, Fairfax Central and Reston Regional libraries. All libraries will be open for registration Oct. 1 and 8 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Registration will take place in the lobby of the Massey Building, 4100 Chain Bridge Rd., Fairfax, weekends through Oct. 7, from 8: 30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Registration will also be held at the following fire stations Sept. 27 and Oct. 4 from 3 to 9 p.m.: Lorton, Gunston, Great Falls, Navy, Burke and Clifton.

ARLINGTON COUNTY - The registrar's office, in Room 130 of the Arlington County Courthouse, is open weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and Saturdays, Sept. 17, 24, Oct. 1, 8, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Registration will be held in all county branch libraries Thursday evenings through Oct. 8 and Mondays through Oct. 3 from 7 to 8:45 p.m. Branch libraries will also register voters Saturdays, Sept. 17, 24, Oct. 1, 8, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The Central Library, at 1015 N. Quincy St., Arlington, will hold voter registration from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays, Sept. 17, 24, Oct. 1, and 8. The Central Library will also be open for voter registration Saturday, Sept. 10, from 1 to 5 p.m.

ALEXANDRIA - The registrar's office, in Room 101 of City Hall, 125 N. Royal St., Alexandria, is now open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays. From Sept. 26 through Oct. 8, it will be open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. weekdays. It will be open Saturday, Oct. 1 and 8, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Burke Branch Library, 4701 Seminary Rd., and Duncan Branch Library, at 2501 Commonwealth Ave., are holding voter registration Thursday evenings from 7 to 9 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. From Sept. 26 through Oct. 8, both branch libraries will be open weekday evenings from 6 to 9 p.m. and Saturday, Oct. 1 and 8, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

FALLS CHURCH - The registrar's office in City Hall, 300 Park Ave., is open weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. It will also be open Saturday, Oct. 8, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Falls Church Library, at 120 N. Virginia Ave., will hold voter registration weekdays from 7 to 8:30 p.m. from Sept. 19 through Oct. 7.

Registration will also be held Sept. 24 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Purcellville Library, Purcellville; Middleburg Community Center, Middleburg; and Sugarland Run Community Center, Sterling.
Oct. 8 registration will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Sterling Middle School, Purcellville Library and Middleburg Community Center.
PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY - The registrar's office, at 9254 Lee Ave., is open weekdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Thursdays from 7 to 9 p.m. It will be open Oct. 8 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The Prince William County Administration Building, at 15960 Cardinal Dr., Woodbridge, has voter registration Thursdays from 2 to 9 p.m. From Sept. 13 through Oct. 8, it will be open Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2 to 9 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. It will be open Oct. 8 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
A special registration drive will take place Sept. 24 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Manassas Mall, Manassas; Hillendale Fire Hall, Dale City; and Dumfries Town Hall, Dumfries.
Field registrations (in private homes) can be made by appointment, but on Oct. 8, people can register in homes from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Call 368-9171, ext. 367, for locations, appointments and general registration information.
