The Nation Yesterday: High pressure over the middle of the country produced clear to partly cloudy skies over much of the Plains and Mississippi and Ohio Valley. Clear to party cloudy skies also dominated the northern and central plateau and Rocky Mountain regions. Temperatures ranged into 70s and 80s over much of the northern two thirds of the nation with some 50s and 60s reported along the Pacific Coast in Washington State and from the Great Lakes through northern New England. Eighty and 90 degree readings were common over much of the remainder of the country. Showers and thunderstorms continued into yesterday evening over southern California portions of the central and southern Plateau from Texas through southwest Virginia and over northern New England. Heavy rains in the southwest resulted in flash food watches being posted through the evening for portions of southern California and Western andsouthern Arizona.

The National Weather Forecast for Today - Scattered showers and thunderstorms are likely over portions of the southern plateau region and from east Texas through Florida and southern Georgia.
