Dr. Elaine Shibe-Conrique, 41, a physician formerly associated with Georgetown and D.C. General Hospitals, died of cancer Sept. 13 in San Diego, Calif.
A specialist in pulmonary dieases, she had been on the staff of the University Hospital of San Diego County since 1969, and had been a clinical professor in the School of Medicine of the University of California at San Diego since 1970.
Born in Washington, Dr. Shibel-Conrique was a graduate of Trinity College here. She received a medical degree from Georgetown University Medical School in 1961.
She was a medical officer at D.C. General and then a resident doctor in pulmonary disease and medicine with the Geogretown medical division at D.C. General from 1962 to 1966.
After taking postgraduate work at Georgetown University Hospital. Dr. Shibel-Conrique was a instructor in medicine at Georgetwon Medical School and a staff member of the pulmonary division until the end of 1963, when she moved to San Diego.
The author of several publications in her field Dr. Shibel-Conrique was a member of the American and California Thoracic societies, the American Federation for Clinical Research.
She is survived by her husband, Abraham, and a daughter, Michele Ann, of the home in San Diego: her mother, Mildred F. Shibel, and a sisterM Janice B. Shibel, both of Washington, and two other sisters, Carole A. McGarvey, of Bethesda and Beverly R. Collins, of Kensington.
The family suggests that expressions of sympathy be in the form of contributions to a memorial fund in her name at University Hospital of San Diego.
