Extended Area Forecast for Friday through Sunday: Fair through the period. Highs will be in the 60s, lows in the 40s. Normal Washington temperatures for the period are a high of 68 and a low of 47.

West Virginia: Today - Partly, cloudy, chance of showers, highs from the mid 40s to rear 60, lows from the upper 30s to the 40s.

The Nation Yesterday: A few southwest. Showers along the central Great Lakes and Ohio Valley continued into the evening, while light rainshowers dotted the Pacific north. Skies remained partly cloudy over much of the nation. Temperatures were generally cool from the Mississippi Valley to the Atlantic Coast and mild from the Plains to the Pacific Coast.

The National Weather Forecast for today - Rain will scatter from New England through New Jersey, across the Great Lakes and the northern half of the Appalachians. Temperatures will be seasonably mild from Florida across the Gulf Coast, as well as from the Plains to the northern Rockies, across the great basin and the southern half of the Pacific Coast. The remainder of the nation will remain generally cool.

The Council of Governmnets' Air Quality Index for yesterday showed the high reading in the Washington area during the 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. period was 30 for the pollutant, photochemical oxidant. Index values between 29 and 49 indicate fair air quality. When the index exceeds 100 the air is considered very unhealthy and individuals with lung, heart and eye ailments are urged to restrict their activity. The forecast for today indicates that the air quality will improve.

The National Weather Service forecasts the Potomac River stage at Little Falls should be near 3.2 feet today.
