A 19-year-old Washington man was arrested following a foot chase Wednesday night and charged in an earlier robbery at a gas station in which a gunman fled after firing three shots D.C. police reported.
The suspect was identified as John Allen Williams, 19, of 1722 T St. SE. He was charged with armed robbery police said. Williams was released on personal recognizance yesterday by a superior court Judge pending a preliminary hearing Oct. 28, authorities said.
Police said the moral's division detectives in plainclothes who had been cruising routinely arrived at the Sunoco gas station at 2305 Pennsylvania Ave. SE about 10:50 and saw a man run from the office with a gun inhis hand. The detectives identified themselves and orderedthe man to halt, but he fired three shots and escaped police said.
Police said the gunman had forced several customers of the station to lie on the floor while he took money from the cash register.
Shortly before midnight, police said, sixth district Officer Roscoe Thomas, who had heard a broadcast description of the gunman, say a man in the 1900 block of Naylor Road SE, who he thought fitted the description.
Police said that after a brief foot chase Officer Thomas arrested the suspect near 18th and P Streets SE.
