Extended Area Outlook for Monday through Wednesday - Partly cloudy Monday with a chance of rain on Tuesday and Wednesday. Highs will average in the 60s, lows in the 40s. Normal Washington temperatures for the period are a high of 66 and a low of 46.

The National Weather Forecast for today - Showers will be scaltered from Western New York northeastward across northern Maine. A few thundershowers will reach from the mid Mississippi Valley over central and southern Plains. Thundershowers will dot southern Florida and also stretch from east Texas across Louisiana. Sunny skies will prevail over the south and central. Intermountain regions. it will be cooler from the Great Lakes region across the Ohio and upper Mississippi Valleys into the central Plains and Oklahoma. Cool weather will continue over the Rockies. Elsewhere most areas will be seasonably mild.

The Council of Governments' Air Quality Index for yesterday showed the high reading in the Washington area during the 3 p.m. period was 34 for the pollutant, photochemical oxidents. Index values between 25 and 49 indicate fair air quality. When the index exceeds 100 the air is considered very unhealthy and individuals with lung, heart and eve ailments are urged to restrict their activity. The forecasts for today indicates that the air quality will improve.

The National Weather Service forecasts the Potomac River stage at Little Falls should remain near 3.2 feet through today.
