The National Weather Forecast for today - Showers and thunder-showers will extend from the Great Lakes and Ohio valley through eastern portions of the upper Mississippi valley and the lower half of the Mississippi valley to the Gulf coast from central Texas through Florida. Rain will continue over the Pacific northwest coast. Temperatures will be mild from the South Carolina coast through Florida and the eastern half of the Gulf coast, southern Texas and the southern California coast. It will also be mild from the northern half of the Rockies across the northern plains and upper two-thirds of the Missouri valley. Elsewhere, temperatures will be unseasonably cool.

The Council of Governments' Air Quality Index for yesterday showed the high reading in the Washington area during the 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. period was 15 for the pollutant, sulfur dioxide.
