Extended Area Forecast for Saturday through Monday - Fair through the period with near normal temperatures. Highs will be in the mid 60s, lows in the 40s. Normal Washington temperatures for the period are a high of 65 and a low of 45.

Lower Potomac and Chesapeake Bay - Partial clearing, with winds shifting to the northwest at 10 to 15 knots by nightfall. Waves will be near 2 feet. Visibility will be 5 miles or better except during early morning cloudiness.

West Virginia: Today - Clear and warm, high near 70, low in the 40s. Friday - Partly cloudy, high again near 70.

The National Forecast for Today - Showers will extend through the Pacific Northwest, over Maine and the Atlantic Coast from North Carolina to New Jersey. Partly cloudy skies will cover most of the nation. It will be cool from Kentucky across the Virginias and north through New Jersey and Eastern Pennsylvania. It will also be cool from the northern Plains across the northern half of the Pacific Coast. Elsewhere temperatures will be seasonably mild.

The Council of Governments' Air Quality Index for yesterday showed the high reading in the Washington area during the 3 p.m. period was 13 for the pollutant, carbon monoxide. Index values between 0 and 14 indicate good air quality. When the index exceeds 100 the air is considered very unhealthy and individuals with lung, heart and eye ailments are urged to restrict their activity. The forecast for today indicates that the air quality will remain about the same.

The Naitonal Weather Service forecasts the Potomac River stage at Little Falls should remain 2.9 feet through today.
