Extended Area Forecast for Thursday through Saturday: Variably cloudy through the period, but a chance of showers by Friday night. Highs will range from the mid 60s, to the low 70s, lows from te upper 40s to the 50s. Normal Washington temperatures for the period are a high of 59 and a low of 40.

West Virginia: Today - Cloudy, chance of showers, highs in the 60s, lows from the mid 40s to the mid 50s. Wednesday - Cloudy, chance of showers, highs in the 60s.

The National Weather Forecast for today Rain will fall across New England into the central Atlantic coast and across the Northern Great Lakes. Another area will cover the plains from southern Texas into South Dakota and from the central Rockies into the central Mississipi Valley. Snow will fall across the central Rockies adn spread eastward into western Nebraska and Kansas. Some rain will fall in northwest Washington. Temperatures will be seasonably mild from the Mississippi river valley to the Atlantic except ofr New England where cool temperatures will prevail. The remainder of the nation will be cool to cold. Sunny skies will prevail elsewhere.

The Council of Governments' Air Quality Index for yesterday showed the high reading in the Washington area during the 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. period was 13 for the pollutant, photochemical oxidants. Index values between zero and 24 indicate good air quality. When the index exceeds 100 the air is considered very unhealthy and individuals with lung, heart and eye eilments are urged to restrict their activity. The forecast for today indicates that the air quality will be good.

The National Weather Service forecasts the Potomac River stage at Little Falls should be near U.S. feet today.
