A man wounded by a shotgun blast outside Blackie's House of Beef at 22d and M Streets NW late Friday was identified by police yesterday at Donald H. Shaw, 25, of 4201 Massachusetts Ave. NW.

Shaw, who was shot at about 11.30 p.m. was reported in good condition yesterday at George Washington University Hospital.

A suspect in the shooting was arrested early yesterday after a police inspector saw a man, fitting the description of the gunman, entering a cab at 19th and K Streets NW.

The inspector, Bryant Hopkins, who was the highest ranking official in the department on duty at the time of the arrest, called for help and apprehended the suspect.

According to police, Shaw and a companion were approached by a gunman after they found Blackie's restaurant was closed, and began to walk away. The gunman asked the pair to accompany him to the restaurant's parking lot, police said, and when they refused a second time, the gunman shot Shaw in the side.

Police arested Sam Jackson Jr., 37, whose last known address was 75 S St. NW, and charged him with assault with intent to kill.
