If too many Sundays as an armchair quarterback or beer and pretzel dispenser have cramped your style, or your body, the Fairfax County Department of Recreation and Community Services might have something to interest you. The department operates free recreation centers for informal basketball and volleyball eah Sunday from 2 to 6 p.m. at schools throught the county.
The centers are offered free to intermediate and high school age youth from Fairfax County, and adults are also welcome at high school and secondary school centers.
This month, the following centers opened: Annandale High, Chantilly Secondary, Edison High, Falls Church High, Fort Hunt High, Groveton High, Hayfield Secondary, Herndon High, Jefferson High, Lake Braddock Secondary, Langley High, Lee High, Madison High, Marshall High, McLean High, Mount Vernon High, Oakton High, Robinson Secondary, Stuart High, West Springfield High, and Woodson High.
In December, more centers are scheduled to begin operation. They are: Bryant Intermediate, Cooper Intermediate, Dogwood Elementary, Forest Edge Elementary, Foster Intermediate, Glasgrow Intermediate, Great Falls Elementary, Gunston Elementary, Holmes Intermediate, Hunters Woods Elementary, Hunt Valley Elementary, Hutchison Elementary, Irving Intermediate, Jackson Intermediate, Key Intermediate, Kilmer Intermediate, Kings Glen Elementary, Longfellow Intermediate, London Towne Elementary, Lorton Elementary, Poe Intermediate, Spring Hill Elementary, Thoreau Intermediate, Twain Intermediate, and Whitman Intermediate.
More centers are scheduled to begin operating in January. Adult leadership is provided at all centers, where registration will be held during normal program hours. The centers are closed for the holidays Nov. 27, Dec 25, and Jan. 1. For more information, call 691-3292.
