Area schools will be closed both Thursday and Friday in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday but most state and county offices will be closed only on Thursday.

In the District all government offices will be closed Thursday. Trash collection will be moved up one day. Weekday traffic and parking regulations will not be in effect on Thursday and Metrobuses will run on a Sunday schedule. The Metro subway will be closed Thursday.

Montgomery County offices and courts will be closed Thursday, as will county liquor stores. There will be no trash collection and Sunday parking regulations will be in effect. Minibus service will not be available and libraries will be closed.

All county offices in Prince George's will be closed Thursday and there will be no trash collection. All Maryland state offices and courts will be closed Thursday.

Arlington County will have trash pickup Thursday but all county offices will be closed. Alexandria city offices will be closed Thursday. Fairfax County offices will be closed as will Fairfax City offices. All Falls Church city offices will be closed Thursday.

All Virginia state offices and courts will be closed Thursday and liquor stores throughout the state also will be closed for the holiday.

Banks throughout the area will be cosed Thursday but some will be open Friday.

Those leaving town for the holiday weekend may find getting a train easier than usual. A total of 17 additional trains will be operated by Amtrak on the Washington-Boston corridor, including eight Wednesday and nine Sunday.

Virtually all trains will carry extra equipment between now and Monday including additional cars on both long and short distance lines.
