Extended Area Forecast for Monday through Wednesday - Rain possible at the beginning and at the end of the period, except for snow in the mountain regions, otherwise fair. Highs will average in the 40s, lows in the 30s. Normal Washington temperatures for the period are a high of 51 and a low of 34.

West Virginia: Today - Windy with snow tapering off to flurries by evening.Accumulations will generally be 1 to 4 inches. Sunday - Cloudy and cold, highs will range from the 20s to the mid 30s, and lows from 10 above to the low 20s.

The National Weather Forecast for today - Windy and cold weather will dominate the Northeast, with snow likely from the upper Ohio Valley through the lower Great Lakes region into northern New England. Rain will fall along the New England coast, while scattered rain or snow showers will extend into the middle Atlantic Coast states. Clearing skies, along with cold temperature, are expected over the Mississippi Valley and the southeast. It will be cold over the Plains, but only scattered light snow is forecast for northern areas. Skies will be partly cloudy in the South. Areas of rain, with snow at higher elevations, will again cover the Pacific Northwest and northern Rockies, while the southern Rockies and Southwest will be dry. Temperatures will generally be mild from the Rockies to the Pacific Coast.

The Council of Governments' Air Quality Index for yesterday showed the high reading in the Washington area during the 3 p.m. period was 13 for the pollutant, carbon monoxide. Index values between 0 and 24 indicate good air quality. When the index exceeds 100 the air is considered very unhealthy and individuals with lung, heart and eye ailments are urged to restrict their activity. The forecast for today indicates that the air quality will remain good.
